Sidonio Porto

Was born in Minas Gerais in 1940. Born in Patrocínio, Minas Gerais, Sidonio Porto graduated in architecture from UFMG in 1964. In 1967, Sidonio, excited by the brutalist movement, moved to São Paulo and began a partnership with Raimundo da Rocha Diniz, also from Minas Gerais. The pair were concerned with developing research aimed at the industrialization of construction that could contribute to opening up paths that would meet the demands of social spaces. In this sense, he designed the Oscar Americano building, one of the first on Paulista Avenue to use prefabricated elements for the façade. A few years later, he began to explore precast concrete technology, which is now a reference in most of his projects. In 1964, when he designed the Itapemirim highway complex, he turned his attention to larger and more complex projects, such as industrial complexes, hotels and financial centers, and today he has become one of the best-known names in national architecture. He was a professor at FAU-UFMG and at the Pan-American School of Art in São Paulo. He directed the IAB (Brazilian Institute of Architects) in Minas Gerais and was Director and Advisor of AsBEA (Brazilian Association of Architectural Offices) in São Paulo. In addition to the many awards he has received, including those from AsBEA and IAB-SP, Sidonio was the winner of the national competition for Architectural Projects for the Petrobras Headquarters in Vitória, Espírito Santo.
